REL210   Understanding Islam Text and Transition in the Modern World   (20 credits)

Description

This module will look at key aspects of Islam in both ancient and contemporary perspectives. It will begin with a literary analysis of the central texts upon which Islam is built (the Quran, Sunna and Hadith) and will apply these to contemporary issues such as gender, sharia, and democracy. As such it will explore key features of Islam and its interactions with the West particularly in terms of clash and dialogue. This interdisciplinary module will also be of interest to students of English, History and Philosophy.
